Why Do People Snore?
Excessive snoring can cause disrupted, unhealthy sleep at night for both the snorer and the people that live with them. Up to 50 percent of adults snore occasionally, and there are numerous reasons why your partner might be snoring. Loud and frequent snoring can be a sign of a serious health problem, which is why it’s so important for them to talk to their doctor if their snoring is disrupting their—or your—sleep.
Snoring can be caused by sleep apnea, a sleep disorder in which people stop breathing when they are asleep. Sleep apnea is very common – approximately 1 in 5 adults have the condition – and it can have serious effects on one’s health.
Excessive, loud snoring is one possible sign of sleep apnea. So if you’re sleeping next to a snorer, find out if their snoring may be a sign of sleep apnea by taking our Snore Score Quiz.
