Why Do I Snore?

Excessive snoring can cause disrupted, unhealthy sleep at night for both the snorer and the people that live with them. Up to 50 percent of adults snore occasionally, and there are numerous reasons why you might be snoring. Loud and frequent snoring can be a sign of a serious health problem, which is why it’s so important to talk to your doctor if your snoring is disrupting your or your loved ones’ sleep.

Snoring can be caused by sleep apnea, a sleep disorder in which people stop breathing when they are asleep. Sleep apnea is very common – approximately 1 in 5 adults have the condition – and it can have serious effects on your health.
